Gravel Calculator

Gravel Calculator

Calculate how much gravel you need for a driveway, walkway, patio, garden, drainage project, or other landscaping project.

1. Choose Your Project Shape

2. Enter Gravel Depth

Enter the depth of gravel you plan to install.

3. Add Extra Gravel

Adding 10% is a reasonable general planning allowance for waste, uneven areas, and settling.

Your Gravel Estimate

You need approximately:

0 cubic yards
0 Cubic feet
0 Approx. tons
0 Square feet

The tonnage shown is a general estimate based on approximately 1.4 tons per cubic yard. Actual weight varies by gravel type, moisture, and supplier. Use the cubic-yard estimate when comparing bulk material quantities, and confirm the required weight with your supplier before ordering.

How much gravel do I need?

To calculate the amount of gravel you need, the calculator determines the area you’re covering and multiplies it by the depth of gravel. Because depth is normally measured in inches while length and width are measured in feet, the calculator converts the depth to feet before calculating the volume.

The result is shown in cubic yards, which is a common unit used when ordering bulk landscaping materials.

Adding a small allowance can help account for waste, uneven areas, and settling. The appropriate amount depends on your project and site conditions.
